If she can't afford to sustain herself on $21,000 per month, especially in a recession, she needs to go out and either perform, write songs and get publishing money, produce -- do something other than attempt to bleed Nas' pockets dry. But this doesn t mean every single card user spends more money than he or she would ve otherwise, only that the average amount of money spent for a group of people is higher.

Since I go to the same branch of Waitrose every week, the manager recognises me so I write out and sign an IOU. The manager asks for some ID -- so I show him my Psychic ID card -- and then gives me the goods. When power is restored and Wessex returns to normality, the manager takes the cheque to the bank and presents it. No problem. But wait: cheques were phased out according to the National Payments Plan in 2018, so no-one knows what they are any more and even if they did there's no system for processing them. How could we function in such circumstances?

Elizabeth Morgan might have an idea about it:
3. Use grocery discount coupons. Yes, I know they are a pain, but they are also exceptional money savers and free if you print them online. If someone is going to hand you a dollar wouldn t you take it? Coupons are offers to hand you money for a purchase, use them to your advantage.

Henry Blodget remembers that:
But wasn't Microsoft just dumb, desperate money in that deal?  And weren't those other folks who invested at $15B just rich foreigners spending toilet-paper dollars?

This article continues my Clean Energy Stocks Shopping List series, which I started with the intent of occupying myself while I wait for the market to fall.  Like most people, I find it difficult not to buy when I find a company I'm interested in, even if I don't like the valuation.  I find planning my future purchases lessens the need to use the cash I've been accumulating now, and possibly will be of some help to readers in the meantime.  So far, I've brought you five clean transport stocks , and five energy efficiency stocks .  I have enough others for about three more lists, which you will be able to find here as they are published.

Trent can't forget that:
gerry @ 10:44 am June 28th, 2009 ( comment #4 )Great points Trent. It just shows how credit is intertwined with life in the U.S. today. The sad part is that credit (esp. credit cards) barely existed 50 years ago and now it is so important. We the people were duped by the companies selling the ability to achieve the American dream quickly buy borrowing money (and repaying much more than was borrowed.) Other industries like insurance and apartment rentals jumped on the credit score bandwagon to reduce the due diligence they have to do to get good customers and appropriately charge extra for the not-so-good customers. Bigger profits for them and they just have to pay a comparatively small amount of money to the credit bureaus. Now, credit is taking even more of a strangle-hold on Americans; turning the country into a two class society, those who own and those who owe.

mmoynihan@reason.com (Michael C. Moynihan) also takes into account the following fact:
